A homebred for Turangga Farm, progressive Hinchinbrook gelding The Virginian made it two wins from three starts when scoring a dominant victory at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Prepared by Toby Edmonds, The Virginian was an easy debut winner at the Gold Coast in April and acquitted himself well when finishing an unlucky sixth in the Group III Gold Coast Guineas at just his second start. Dropped back in grade to a Class One event over 1200 metres, The Virginian started a hot favourite and raced away to win by more than three lengths. The Virginian is the first foal of unraced Forestry mare Redwood Dancer (USA), a daughter of Group II winner Fiery Pursuit from the family of Group I winners Flanders, Surfside and Air Force Blue. Turangga Farm sold a Hinchinbrook filly from Redwood Dancer for just $30,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year to Joseph and Jones Racing and she is due to foal to Hinchinbrook again this spring.
