I Am Invincible’s best son Brazen Beau might be retiring to Darley Victoria this spring, but he has other fish to fry first with a barrier trial win at Rosehill on Monday morning indicating his Royal Ascot trip is right on target.

The Chris Waller-trained two-time Group I winner is targeting the Group I King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) on June 16 and looked bright and happy in scoring a length win in his 900 metre trial.

He bounced straight to the front for Hugh Bowman and cruised home to cover the 900 metres in 53.7 seconds.

Brazen Beau’s next assignment in Australia will be a jump-out at Flemington with Shamal Wind on May 29 before flying out on June 3.

Along with the Robert Smerdon-trained Shamal Wind, Gai Waterhouse’s Newgate Farm bound colt Wandjina is expected to join the pair enroute to England, giving Australia a three-pronged assault at the world famous UK racing festival.

Being a five year-old mare, Shamal Wind is also likely to go to stud later this year for her owners Rob and Donna Love and it will be interesting to see if connections might be tempted by either of her travelling companions!

Could Royal Ascot this year produce some ‘royal equine romance’?
