I Am Invincible four year-old Voodoo Lad has never missed a place in 11 starts and posted his first metro win for new trainer Darren Weir when saluting at Moonee Valley on Saturday. Previously with Rod Northam at Scone, Voodoo Lad won the $100,000 Inglis Scone Challenge at two and was third in last years’ Country Championships Final at Randwick before spelling for over a year. A winner at Warrnambool at his first run back for Weir and then second in an open sprint at Morphettville last month, Voodoo Lad looked to be at his best at Moonee Valley.

He travelled smoothly for Chris Parnham up on the pace and kicked away to win the open sprint over 1200 metres by a length and a half in a manner that suggests better wins are in store. Purchased for just $36,000 by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds from the Yarraman Park draft at the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale, Voodoo Lad has the overall record of six wins and five placings from 11 starts with prizemoney topping $310,000. He is the last foal and third winner for placed Gilded Time (USA) mare O’Fortuna, who died in 2012 and whose dam is a sister to champion sprinter Schillaci.
