Exciting I Am Invincible colt Hellbent was a brilliant winner at Rosehill on Wednesday. An eye-catching debut winner at Canterbury back in June on a heavy track, the Kurt Goldman trained Hellbent was subsequently sent to Queensland for a winter spell in the sunshine which has obviously done him a power of good. Sent to the post a short priced favourite for the Benchmark 67 event over 1200 metres for three year-olds, Hellbent cut an imposing figure in the mounting yard with his handsome bay physique so reminiscent of his sire. He performed right up to his good looks and short quote when cruising up on the pace for Blake Shinn before dropping his rivals over the final furlong to win by four lengths. “He put the writing on the wall with that first win and it was just a matter of coming here and getting the job done,” said Kurt Goldman. “He’s still learning his trade, but we’ll probably head to the Listed Sir Brian Crowley Stakes (1200 metres on October 17) for his next start. “If he went well there, then maybe we’d go to Melbourne for the Coolmore (Group I over 1200 metres, October 31).” A $95,000 Inglis Classic Summer Book purchase from the draft of Dartbrook Downs Thoroughbreds, Hellbent is the second winner for metro winning Volksraad (GB) mare Volkaspray, who comes from the family of triple Group I winning Kiwi mare Viadana. Hellbent may be looking to follow in the footsteps of that other I Am Invincible colt bought from the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Brazen Beau, who won the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes last year. I Am Invincible already has one confirmed runner for the race this year with Singapore based sprint sensation Super One set to test his mettle against the local sprinters. Unbeaten in winning four from four by a combined total of some 15 lengths, Super One arrived in Melbourne on Sunday and by all accounts travelled well.
