The Group III VRC The Vanity at Flemington on Saturday was won by progressive Street Cry (IRE) filly Sweet and Speedy who was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park as was the third place-getter Wawail.

A homebred for the Chung family prepared by Peter Moody, Sweet and Speedy was having her second run back from a spell and proved too good for Group I VRC Oaks winner Set Square in winning the 1400 metre contest by a long neck with a further three-quarters of a length back to Wawail (3f Lonhro x El Daana), who was a stakes-winner in the spring.

With three wins and two placings from five starts and earnings of $162,975, Sweet and Speedy will now chart a course to the Group I ATC Australian Oaks.

“Her win at Sandown the other day was phenomenal, I think she is a very good filly and she is well and truly on an oaks path,” said Peter Moody.

“Whether she has one more run here before she heads to Sydney we’ll decide over the coming weeks. She is not a gross filly and won’t need a lot of racing so a probably a mile then a mile and a quarter race like the Vinery leading into the Oaks.”

Sweet and Speedy was foaled and raised at Yarraman Park and is the first foal of former smart Al Maher filly Speedy Natalie, who won the Group III AJC Adrian Knox Stakes.

Also bred at Yarraman Park and sold as a yearling, Speedy Natalie was raced by Mr Chung and trained by Peter Moody, so it’s terrific to see them achieving success with her first born foal.

Speedy Natalie has a two year-old colt by Lonhro, a yearling colt by Sepoy and was covered last spring by I Am Invincible.
